The BGM-71 TOW missile (Tube-launched, Optically-tracked Wire-guided) is a vehicle-, and helicopter-mounted antitank missile manufactured for the US Army and Marine Corps, as well as a large number of export clients. More than 675,000 TOWs have been produced to date, and over 250,000 exported. There are about 16,000 TOW platforms worldwide. Total US Army procurement of TOW 2 included 64,010 TOW 2,33,350 TOW 2A and 32,625 TOW-2B. USMC procurement included 13,480 TOW 2, 17,975 TOW 2A and 6,200 TOW 2B. Significant Army procurement funding ended in FY93 but in FY03, the Army announced plans to restart low-rate TOW procurement in FY04-15 to replenish inventories. The Army is now acquiring radio frequency guided TOW missiles as Raytheon stopped producing the specialized guidance wire in 2003. The US Marine Corps also received funding for a further TOW-2B missiles in the Iraq war supplementals. US Army procurement is planned to continue at least until FY20.
