JIAG closes amid ERU price collapse

The Joint Implementation Action Group (JIAG) shut its operations on 22 March amid record low emissions reduction unit (ERU) prices and no prospect of recovery in sight. JIAG says it will cease to exist because “under the current circumstances there is no economic rationale to continue pro-moting this innovative mechanism”. From its peak of ?13.33/t of CO2 equivalent (CO2e) in April 2011, the ERU price has crashed to below ?0.10/t CO2e at the end of last year — and has yet to recover — JIAG says.
