Trader associations want back-loading

European trade associations have called for the European Parliament to support the back-loading issue proposal. Parliament's industry and energy committee (ITRE) rejected the back- loading proposal in a non-binding vote on 24 January, prompting calls by the influential International Emissions Trading Association (Ieta) and the Climate Markets and Investment Association (CMIA) for a supporting vote by parliament's environment committee (ENVI) on the issue. "The dramatic price collapse may be a wake-up call for the ENVI com- mittee to realise what consequences a vote against the commission's proposal would have," Ieta EU policy director Sarah Deblock says.
