Shanghai launches CO2 trading scheme

Shanghai on 26 November became the second Chinese city after Shenzhen to launch a pilot emissions trading scheme (ETS), as the first allowances traded on the scheme’s official Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange. Around 6,000t of CO2 traded on the market for allowances for use this year, ending at 27 yuan/t CO2 ($4.43/t CO2). Some 5,000t of CO2 also traded on the market for 2014 allowances, ending at Yn26/t CO2, while 1,000t traded on the market for 2015 allowances, ending at Yn25/t CO2.
