Volatility could curb shipping deals

Stock market turbulence has battered virtually all industries, but shipping shares have fallen further and gyrated more wildly than most. The late-August share price slide topped offa long stretch of very poor performance for US-listed shipping equities. On 28 August, the 53 shipping companies listed on NYSE and NASDAQ were down by 46% from their 52-week highs, according to analysis by IHS Maritime. Over nine-tenths of these declines preceded the recent market tumult.
