US offshore project back on track

While growth prospects for the world's offshore drilling sector remains unpredictable thanks to slack oil prices, the US supply vessel sector has a reason to be optimistic: the start-up of the Deepwater Wind project off Rhode Island. The 30 MW, five-turbine offshore wind farm project, located 2.6 n miles off the coast of Block Island (part of the state of Rhode Island) in the Atlantic Ocean, is the first offshore wind project in the United States. The project began with the installation of a 360-tonne steel jacket on the sea floor on 26 July by contractors Weeks Marine and Manson Construction.
