The ascension of Sultan Qaboos bin Sa'id to the throne of Oman nearly 40 years ago inaugurated a series of far-reaching changes in that ancient land, including the promotion of universal education and access to knowledge as essential to the long-termprosperity and social stability of the nation. In the intervening years, Oman has built many institutions dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge, including the Royal Hospital-Sultanate. Established in 1987, the hospital is a large, acute-care facility aswell as a teaching center. Inside the hospital is the Central Library of Medicine (CML), which supports both the clinical and academic missions of the organization.
