China’s cobalt feedstock imports rise in June

Chinese imports of cobalt intermediates and concentrates rose on the month in June, as shipments from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Africa resumed in the middle of the month. Shipments and mining operations in DRC and South Africa were suspended in April-May because of Covid-19 lockdowns. China imported 15,207t of cobalt intermediates produced through the hydrometallurgy process last month, up by 24.8pc from May but down by 41.9pc from June 2019, according to latest customs data. The average price was $6,521.60/t in June, down by 11.9pc from May but up by 25.4pc on the year.
