Cinovec lithium project wins EU funding

Europe’s efforts to source battery-grade materials from within the continent moved forward after the Cinovec lithium-tin project in the Czech Republic gained funding to start construction from EU-backed body EIT InnoEnergy. Cinovec, a joint venture between European Metals and Czech state-controlled utility Cez, will receive €29mn ($34mn) from EIT InnoEnergy to guide the project to construction. The EU-backed organisation will help the project secure financing for construction and grant funding from applicable schemes, while also facilitating negotiations for offtake agreements and commercialisation of the project. EIT InnoEnergy, which is part of the European Battery Alliance, was initiated by the European Commission to create a sustainable battery supply chain in Europe. N^Yusuf Khan
