US : Bi rises as competition eases

Bismuth prices rose today as higher spot demand eased the competition among traders that has weighed on prices in recent weeks, but sluggish activity weighed on most of the minor metals complex. Prices for 99.65pc grade antimony were at $2.26-2.35/lb cif US today, flat on 7 July. Spot market activity was muted as battery makers rely on drawing down inventory, while alloy producers have not entered the spot market for some time, A decline in prices for trioxide has led suppliers to cut back and focus on smaller but higher-margin sales. The last trioxide sale was done at $2.45/lb, a slight premium to metal.
