Damen plans for a boom in ballast water treatment

Damen Shipyards has formed strategic partnerships with three major ballast water treatment suppliers so it can retrofit ballast water treatment systems. In establishing the alliances the Dutch shipbuilder would appear to be banking on early implementation of the IMO's long-delayed 2004 ballast water management convention. Damen's three partners are Canada's Trojan Marinex, France's Bio-UV, and US-based Evoqua Water Technologies. The shipbuilder said it would choose which equipment to retrofit according to the vessel and the customer's operational requirements and preferences.
