Heterosis for crop yield and yield components of the P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 populations of three bread wheat crosses (UP-301 x RAJ-3077, CPAN-3004 x HD-2329 and HD-2428 x RAJ 1482) was evaluated in the field during the rabi season of 1994-95. Significant positive heterosis was observed for most of the traits except plant height and grain yield in UP-301 x RAJ-3077, plant height in CPAN-3044 x HD-2329, and plant height and grain yield per plant in HD-2428 x RAJ-1482. Inbreeding depression in segregating populations was also observed for most of the characters except number of days to heading in UP-301 x RAJ-3077 and HD-2428 x RAJ-1482.
