At our hospital, it became difficult to perform pressure flow studies (PFS) , an examination in urology care, due to the lack of doctors. As medical care support from our laboratory division, we reserved a time for 2 to 3 PFS (one hour/study) every Friday afternoon. A male medical technologist was trained to perform PFS by direct guidance from expert urologists and a urination function examiner qualification system promoted by the Japanese Urological Association. The average annual number of PFS in 6 years after our support in 2012 increased by 2,3-fold (from 33.5 to 75.8 cases) and the annual average outpatient ratio also increased by 17.5 % compared with the previous 6 years. Additionally, the annual average female patient proportion significantly increased by 5.7 %,suggesting an increasing number of female patients requiring PFS in the near future. Therefore, we also trained a female technologist considering that PFS for female patients should be performed in a more delicate manner. The PFS quality was maintained following standard operating procedures and manuals according to the ISO 9001 Quality Management System. Furthermore, a clinical trial requiring PFS was adopted in 2017. Thus, the development of a PFS inspection system was also able to improve hospital management. [Short Communication]
