摘要

Cholesterol efflux capacity(CEC) is one of the important factors for evaluating the high-density lipoprotein function. Actually, many studies demonstrated that CEC values were inversely associated with the incidence of cardiovascular events. However, the current assay methods used to determine CEC are not suitable for clinical laboratory use because of complexity, poor repeatability, and insufficient safety. Recently, we developed a novel CEC assay, called the immobilized liposome-bound gel bead(ILG) method. In this review, we introduce basic properties, and comparative data between ILG and conventional methods. When HDL and apolipoprotein B-100 depleted serum, obtained by polyethylene glycol precipitation, was used as the cholesterol acceptor, the ILG method showed good basic properties, such as the repeatability, specificity, and correlation with the conventional method. Serum and plasma obtained from various anticoagulants and stored serum samples were available for CEC evaluation. However, the ILG method did not reflect CEC of apolipoprotein E-containing HDL, and bilirubin showed a positive effect on CEC values. Using this reliable and simple method, further evaluation of the clinical significance of CEC is expected. [Review]
