The COVID-19 pandemic caused by a newly identified coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which is believed to have started in late 2019, still shows no clear signs of abating. However, such symbiosis between infectious pathogens and general life forms is not that uncommon in the three or more billion years that life on Earth has existed, and in the millions of years that humans are believed to have been present. This article provides some examples of how humans have overcome epidemics in the past and how mammals have coped as a subclass of animals. In light of these, the author discussed what true "rationality" is, what "science" is, and what we need to convey to future generations not only through infectious diseases as disasters, but also through this pandemic.
