China's August rare earth exports rise on year

China's rare earth exports rose significantly from a year earlier in August, buoyed by robust overseas demand following Covid-19-driven disruptions last year. The country's August exports maintained rapid growth from a year earlier, gaining by 139.8pc to 3,936t following a 144pc rise in July, according to customs data. But the August shipments dipped on the month for a third consecutive month since the 4,171t shipped in May, as buying activity among international consumers weakened during the summer lull season. The August average price of $13,414/t fell by 7.5pc from a year earlier and by 18.5pc from July.
