The adsorption of trace elements onto stationary phases has proven to be a valuable separation/preconcentration technique. This is because it provides very high concentration factors compared to other techniques, and often permits interference-free determinations. Among the different adsorbents, activated carbon and chelating agents supported on various materials are of greatest interest.
