A field experiment was conducted in Haryana, India, during 1994-95 to 1995-96 to determine the effect of irrigation levels and postemergence application of diclofop-methyl [diclofop] on weed growth and yield of wheat. There was significant increase in dry matter of grassy and broad leaf weeds with the increase in irrigation levels (from one to six). Yield of wheat was significantly higher with six irrigations at critical stages compared to one and three irrigations. Postemergence application of diclofop-methyl at 1.0 kg/ha provided good control of grassy weeds and produced grain yield at par with that of isoproturon at 1.0 kg/ha. However, diclofop-methyl applied at different rates failed to control the broad leaf weeds significantly indicating its ineffectiveness against broad leaf weeds.
