A field experiment was conducted during rabi 2001/02, in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, to evaluate the effect of biodynamic compost, i.e. cow pat pit (CPP) manure, on the productivity of rice-wheat cropping system and on the fertility status of the soil. Results revealed that CPP, especially when applied in combination with biofertilizer (Azotobacter and Azospirillum) improved the yield of both rice and wheat. CPP as seed or root treatment was consistently superior to soil or foliar application. CPP as soil, seed or root treatment improved soil fertility by increasing organic C, available P and K..
