Less oil consumption through new honing process. Small oil consumption and the resulting reduced pollutant emission of internal combustion engines are chief objectives in developing new honing processes for cylinder faces. Slide honing or, better still, helical slide honing can meet these requirements. These three-step processes are comparable with plateau honing and can be implemented on existing honing equipment.
