Is life expectancy in rich countries reversing? - Recent trends in life expectancy across high income countries

Study question Did widespread declines in life expectancy occur during 2014-16 across a set of 18 high income countries, and what causes of death were primarily responsible for these declines? Methods The authors used demographic methods to examine recenttrends in life expectancy at birth in 18 member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development with high quality all cause and cause specific mortality data for 2014-16. They also investigated whether declines in life expectancy were concentrated at younger (0-65) or older (≥65) ages and identified the key causes of death responsible for any declines.
