BMA responds to articles on assisted dying

The BMA recognises that a range of views on physician assisted dying exist, both from the public and within the profession. In response to your series of articles on the subject (Editor's Choice, Feature, and Personal View, 10 February) we would like to clarify that we most recently tackled this topic in 2016, when we undertook a major research project to engage with both doctors and patients to seektheir views. Invitees were randomly selected from our membership database to reflect the UK doctor population. This method was chosen because we were keen to hear from those members who do not have strong, pre-established views on the matter and whose voices are not usually heard in the debate.
