Chazelas et al say that additives in soft drinks might increase cancer risk. The World Cancer Research Fund International says there is no evidence to linkfood additives with increased cancer risk, except nitrites and nitrates in processed meat. Evidence does show, however, that free sugars can promote weight gain and increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and that being overweight or obese can increase the risk of some cancers.
