Clinical aphasiologists embraced cognitive neuropsychology (CNP) models soon after CNP emerged as a discipline in the 1970s, recognising the limitations on which the models were based while simultaneously valuing their contribution to clinical diagnosis and treatment, and building on these limitations through refining the methodology and approaches to address them.
