A 27-year-old male received multiple stabs to the left thorax, left flank and the right side of his head. On arrival at the emergency department, he had a pulse rate of 105, a blood pressure of 140/ 105 mm Hg and a Glasgow Coma Scale of 7/15. After intubation and a secondary survey, he had computed tomography (CT) scans of the head, cervical spine and torso. The CT scan of the abdomen showed a lacerated lower pole of the left kidney with extravasation of intravenous contrast. There was also a continuous track of contrast between perirenal tissue and the lumen of the descending colon (Fig. 1). The patient had two episodes of malaena soon after the completion of the CT scans.
