The Forgotten Cause of Hyponatraemia

Hypopituitarism and adrenal insufficiency can cause severe life threatening hyponatremia. It can cause dramatic symptoms and severe mortality. Early diagnosis and treatment with glucocorticoids is the key to manage such patients. In our experience, the diagnosis of hypopituitarism in hyponatremic patients is over looked and often misdiagnosed as Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion.
