asahi tanker orders battery-powered vessels

Japanese shipping firm Asahi Tanker has placed orders for two 499dwt, 1,280m3 battery-powered electric coastal oil tankers with local shipbuilders Koa Industry and Imura Zosen. The vessel to be built by Koa Industry in Kagawa prefec- ture on Japan's southern Shikoku island is expected to be delivered in March 2022. The other vessel that will be built by Imura Zosen in Tokushima prefecture on Shikoku island is targeted for delivery in March 2023. The vessels will be used as bunker ships to supply fuel oils in the Tokyo Bay area. Asahi Tanker will manage and operate the vessels. N^Nanami Oki
