Japan’s JBIC to finance Cu production in Peru

State-controlled Japan Bank for International Co-operation (JBIC) yesterday agreed to finance domestic trading house Mitsubishi, incorporating technology to enhance copper production at the Quellaveco copper mine in south Peru. JBIC and private-sector bank Mitsubishi UFJ (MUFG) Bank plan to provide $51mn to Mitsubishi with JBIC financing $30mn and the rest by MUFG Bank. Mitsubishi will use the fund to introduce coarse particle flotation technology, which enables extraction of coppers from coarse copper ores.
