SKIET set to start producing Li battery separators

South Korean battery material manufacturer SK IE Technology (SKIET) – subsidiary of energy company SK Innovation – is imminently set to begin commercial production of lithiumion battery separators from its recently constructed plant in Poland. The new plant in the Silesia Province, which has a current capacity of 340mn m2, will supply separators to the rapidly expanding European electric vehicles (EVs) market. In the first half of 2021 European EV sales totalled 800,000 – accounting for 15pc of the region's automotive market, a rise of over 100pc on the year. If yearly capacity is met, SKIET could supply enough separators for 300,000 EVs – but product will also be supplied to its sister company SK On, SKIET said.
