Japan increases Cu output, exports in 2020

Japanese firms increased refined copper output last year and boosted exports to offset lower domestic copper consumption amid manufacturing slump triggered by Covid-19 and a global economic slowdown. Japanese production of electrolytic copper was 6pc higher on the year at 1.6mn t last year, according to preliminary data released today by the trade and industry ministry. Monthly copper output remained mostly steady despite a pandemic-driven demand slump from the country’s manufacturing sector for copper products.
