摘要

July has been an important month for the marine industry, kicking off with the election of a new IMO secretary general (sec-gen). South Korea's Lim Ki-tack pipped five other candidates to the post, and will spend the coming months setting his affairs in order at Busan port before his move to London. Ki-tack has outlined his plans for his initial four year stint (see Currents) when he takes over the reins from Koji Sekimizu in the new year. His initiatives sound promising and, if they manifest, could make headway in addressing some of the issues that have so long stalled progress within the sector.
