Scuttlebutt does not know how the UK's highly-respected Maritime Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) selects which investigators work on each incident, but bless the poor souls who were tasked with scrutinising a double bill involving the Wacker Quacker, the 33-pax refitted WWII amphibious passenger vehicle that sunk in Salthouse Dock in Liverpool in June 2013, and the Duck Cleopatra, a similar craft that caught fire on the River Thames in London that September. MAIB recruits some of the brightest and best from the industry. No doubt they come onboard hoping to exercise their detective skills and intimate knowledge of vessel operation in the aftermath of a major incident to further MAIB's admirable mission.
