Peabody culls workforce

Global coal miner Peabody Energy is understood to have laid off a significant portion of its workforce in Australia, multiple sources have indicated. The lay-offs come as its 1.8 mt/y North Goonyella metallurgical coal mine is expected to remain shut for the next three years and falling met coal prices are understood to be eroding bottom lines at its 2.7 mt/y Coppabella and 2.1 mt/y Moorvale operations.
