Manganese ore stockpiles at the port of Tianjin stood at 4.24 million mt as of July 30, according to data seen by S&P Global Platts and compiled by the Tianjin Zhenhong International Logistics Co. The port of Tianjin hosts the largest stockpile of manganese ore in China, with other major stockpiles at the ports of Qinzhou and Lianyungang. Market sources have told Platts that total stockpiles of ore at Chinese ports currently sit close to 6.5 million mt, down from more than 7 million mt in October 2020 but still significantly higher than the long-term average of between 3 million mt and 4 million mt. According to the data, 66.62% of the stocks originated from South Africa, of which 80% is semicarbonate material, with the remainder made up by high-iron, middle-iron and sintering at 10%, 7% and 3%, respectively.
