JSW to restart Ohio furnace, aiming for April HRC deliveries

Pittsburgh—JSW USA is set to restart its electric-arc furnace in Ohio this week with the aim of delivering hot-rolled coil to customers in April, market sources confirmed. The steelmaker has been absent from the market since last year after intermittent production in 2020 due to coronavirus-related demand disruptions, low HRC prices and planned mill upgrades. US HRC prices have been extremely volatile since the mill went quiet in the summer of last year. The daily Platts US HRC index fell to a multi-year low in August 2020 but since has rebounded to all-time highs sitting at $1,245.50/st on March 8.
