Asian iron ore demand hampered by production curbs in Tangshan

Singapore—Seaborne iron ore prices continued to trend lower March 31, as stricter production curbs in China’s Tangshan region dampened buying interest. S&P Global Platts assessed the 62% Fe Iron Ore Index at $164.75/ dry mt CFR North China on March 31, down $1.8/dry mt from March 30. Seaborne iron ore market cooled during the day amid fears that iron ore demand may face further headwinds. Sources told S&P Global Platts that Tangshan production curbs have tightened as four more mills were downgraded in terms of their emission category, as per the latest instructions.
