NLMK raises rerolling efficiency by enabling small-lot slab sales

London—Russian mining and steel company NLMK has launched NLMK Slab Shop, an online platform that will enable small-batch sales of the semi-finished product and is meant to improve efficiency of the processes at rerolling mills, the company said March 31. The service is meant to enable customers to buy slabs in as small as 60 mt batches. Manufacturers of flat-rolled products often have a need for small volumes of semi-finished steel made of special grades, but it is difficult to meet these needs in the commodity market due to technical limitations on the minimum lot production, NLMK said. So rolled-steel manufacturers are forced to use less effective solutions: either produce the required slabs themselves or place orders for excess volumes, the company said.
