Large sections of the Upper Rhine are closed to navigation as a result of high water levels, but oil products shortages are unlikely as refineries in the region keep the market wellsupplied. The Maxau gauge near Karlsruhe was expected to remain above the high-water mark of 7.5 meters until at least 17 July, according to the German authorities, meaning that shipping from Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) to Karlsruhe, Germany, and Switzerland would not be possible.
