EU Bans Imports of Petroleum Products From Belarus

The EU has announced economic sanctions against Belarus that include a ban on imports of petroleum products.The European Council cited"serious human rights violations"and mentioned the interception and forced landing of a Ryanair flight in May and the subsequent detention of journalist and opposition activist Raman Pratasevich.Exports of petroleum products generated around $2.75 billion of revenue for Belarus in 2020.It exports 11 million-14 million tons of products a year to countries such as Ukraine,the Baltic states,the Netherlands and the UK.Until recently,most of the products that Belarus exported were shipped through the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda.
