Myanmar Appoints New Minister

Myanmar’s new military regime has replaced the country’s energy and electricity minister with a former minister from a previous administration. The newly formed State Administration Council said Aung Than Oo has been appointed as the new minister for electricity and energy. Than Oo was previously a deputy minister at the Ministry of Electricity and Energy under former President Thein Sein’s cabinet, which was in power from 2011-16. He will replace Win Khaing, who had promised to undertake industry reforms, attract foreign investment, and support LNG imports to resolve the country’s chronic power shortages.
