A Study on Adoption of Cultivation and Post-harvest Practices by Chilli Growers of Northern Telangana Zone of Andhra Pradesh

The study was conducted in three districts of Northern Telangana zone, where chilli is grown as one of the principal crops. The findings revealed that the farmers were raising the chilli seedlings on flat bed nursery. The fertilizers and pesticide usage was more than recommended and with regard to use of pesticides, they are mixing more than two pesticides and taking up sprayings many a times. This indicated that none of them is following any scientific recommendations. Among the pests that cause severe damage to crop, the leaf curl was found to be the major one. One interesting finding was that most of them do possess the knowledge on integrated pest management but, surprisingly nobody was adopting it. It was learnt that, the farmers lacked knowledge on quality aspects of chilli.
