Using ~(14)C-labeled herbicides in aquatic plantmanagement research

Using radiolabeled herbicides to study absorption, translocation, and metabolism began shortly after the dawn of the "Green Revolution" and the "Nuclear Age." By the 1950s, scientists in the new field of weed science were using radiolabeled herbicidesto understand herbicide behavior in terrestrial plants and a few years later work was initiated to examine herbicide absorption and translocation in aquatic plants (Aldrich and Otto 1959, Funderburk and Lawrence 1963, Frank and Hodgson 1964, Thomas andSeamen 1968).
