While not your typical Part Two article, this project has many similarities to an earlier project of mine published in the Fall 2020 Digital Machinist, "A Stepper Motor Controller Version of a Rotary Table - Part One." (That previous project will be referred to as PP.) Therefore, I'll concentrate on what's different in this project and gloss over what's similar to the PP. During my internet research for the PP, I found many folks have built a version of a smart rotary table, but none that I saw used a toothed belt drive. The toothed belt drive has the advantage of providing increased torque for those who need to machine metal while positioning. Further, I did not find anyone who had used a DC servo combined with an intelligent motion controller to control a rotary table. This article is about doing just that.
