Until recently, somatic cell counts (SCCs) in Andrew Kellow's 500-head Holstein herd near Wadebridge, Cornwall, were not a concern, but with changes to his milk contract standards coming in, there was an economic benefit to reducing them.Mr Kellow, who farms with his children Abby and Dan, began discussing options for the autumn block calving herd with his vet, Phil Dawber, of Cornwall Dairy Vets, with lowering cell counts in the tank and total antibiotic use on the farm being the aims.
