Fungal leaf spots are very common on a wide range of plant genera where some species can be more prone than others. Many are cosmetic and cause little long-term damage, such as tar spot on acer.However, year-round selling of ornamental crops in containers means even biologically superficial leaf-spot diseases need to be controlled because they will cause economic loss through downgrading a crop in leaf or even rendering it unmarketable.Fungal leaf spots can be a problem on many ornamental crops including Aesculus, camellia, cordyline, cornus, escallonia, Garrya, hebe, Hedera, Helleborus, iris, Juniperus, phormium, rhododendron, thuja, viburnum, vinca and yucca.
