Textile and clothing exports from Cambodia rose by 6.0% in 2019.The rise reflected,primarily,an increase in exports to the USA and sales in this market continued to rise in 2020.Exports to the EU,by contrast,fell in 2019 and sales in this market were down sharply in 2020.Furthermore,demand in this market is likely to remain subdued in the coming years following the EU's decision to partially suspend Cambodia's duty-free access to the EU market from August 2020.Textile and clothing exports from Indonesia declined by 17.7% in 2020,reflecting the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.The decline was mirrored by falls in sales in the EU and US markets.Domestic sales of clothing at the retail level in Indonesia,meanwhile,plunged by 60.0% in 2020 after rising by 12.5% in 2019.Textile and clothing exports from Malaysia declined by 13.8% in 2020,reflecting the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.The decline was mirrored by falls in sales in the EU and US markets.Textile production in Malaysia,meanwhile,declined by 13.2% while clothing production fell by 11.4%.Textile and clothing exports from Myanmar rose by 20.5% in 2019,reflecting increases in exports to all of its major markets,including Australia,Canada,China,the EU,Japan,Malaysia,South Korea,Thailand,the UK and the USA.Furthermore,sales of textiles and clothing from Myanmar in the US market continued to rise in 2020 while sales in the EU market fell only marginally despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.Textile and clothing exports from Thailand fell by 17.0% in 2020,reflecting declines in exports to most of Thailand's major markets,including China,theEU,Japan,the USA and several Asean markets.There was also a decline in textile and clothing production in Thailand in 2020.Textile and clothing exports from Vietnam fell by an estimated 10.9% in 2020,reflecting declines in sales in the US,Japanese and EU markets.Having said that,the decline in sales in the EU market was only minimal,and sales in this market are expected to rise sharply in the coming years following the implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement(FTA).Textile and clothing production in Vietnam,meanwhile,fell modestly in 2020.
