LOW-CARBON HEATING: 2025 fossil fuel boiler ban confirmed for Future Homes Standard

Natural gas boilers and all other forms of fossil fuel heating will officially be banned from use in new homes from 2025, the government has confirmed. The official response to an initial consultation on the Future Homes Standard has set out proposals for ensuring that all new-build properties constructed from 2025 are "zero carbon-ready". This will mean ensuring that new buildings are future-proofed to meet the government's 2050 net zero commitments by focusing on low-carbon heat technologies and improved energy efficiency. Meeting these aims will mean no significant retrofit work will be needed on new properties in order to fully eliminate their carbon emissions over the next three decades, according to the government.
