A review of pet passports and the EU Pet Travel Scheme

Dogs, cats and ferrets can be issued with a pet passport by a private veterinary practitioner (PVP) in Ireland. Pet passports can be ordered directly from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), Animal Health and Welfare Division. Pages 2 and 3 of the passport provide explanatory notes contained in the passport. The DAFM will also send out its guidelines Per Passports - Information for PVPs, which contains additional relevant information for the veterinary practitioner in completing and issuing the pet passport, with each order. This includes the requirements on PVPs to securely store blank pet passports, not to sell or supply blank or incomplete pet passports, and to maintain an accurate record of pet passports issued for at least five years.
