In order to reflect the ability of comprehensive dealkalization and desulfurization of BF slag more accurately, the K~(2)S capacity was proposed. The effects of w (CaO)/ w (SiO~(2)), w (MgO) and w (Al~(2)O~(3)) on the ability of comprehensive dealkalization and desulfurization were studied at 1773?K using gas-slag equilibrium techniques. The results showed that with an increase of w (CaO)/ w (SiO~(2)), the comprehensive desulfurization and dealkalization capacity of BF slag increases firstly and then decreases. When w (CaO)/ w (SiO~(2)) is 1.0, the $${ext{C}}_{{{ext{K}}_{ 2} {ext{S}}}}$$ C K 2 S reaches the maximum value. As w (MgO) increases with w (CaO)/ w (SiO~(2)) constant, the $${ext{C}}_{{{ext{K}}_{ 2} {ext{S}}}}$$ C K 2 S of BF slag increases firstly and then decreases. When w (MgO) is 10.58%, the $${ext{C}}_{{{ext{K}}_{ 2} {ext{S}}}}$$ C K 2 S reaches the maximum value. As w (MgO) increases with [ w (CaO)?+? w (MgO)]/ w (SiO~(2)) constant, the $${ext{C}}_{{{ext{K}}_{ 2} {ext{S}}}}$$ C K 2 S of BF slag decreases. The use of MgO instead of CaO can deteriorate the comprehensive desulfurization and dealkalization capacity. With an increase of w (Al~(2)O~(3)), the $${ext{C}}_{{{ext{K}}_{ 2} {ext{S}}}}$$ C K 2 S of BF slag increases firstly and then decreases. When w (Al~(2)O~(3)) is 15.1%, the $${ext{C}}_{{{ext{K}}_{ 2} {ext{S}}}}$$ C K 2 S reaches the maximum value. It is suggested that w (CaO)/ w (SiO~(2)) remains at about 1.0 in blast furnace production, w (MgO) is maintained at about 10.58%, and w (Al~(2)O~(3)) is maintained at about 15.1%.
