Evolving treatment of prostate diseases - A never ending journey

Editorial: Prostate diseases are common among all ages of men, from prostatitis, benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) to prostate cancer (PCa), especially in those over 50 years of age. In Asia, prostate cancer is generally less common than in Western countries. However, a persisted and rapidly increasing trend has been observed in both incidence and mortality rate of prostate cancer from 1979 to now. Currently, PCa ranked the 5th most common cancer in Taiwan with the 7th highest cancer-related mortality rate. In a rapidly aging Taiwanese society, prostate health deserves further concern from both the government and the public. Therefore, urologists definitely play a more pivotal role than before.
